The Skincare Routine For Busy Moms

During pregnancy, mummies have high levels of estrogen and progesterone, which causes great physiological changes in the body, and also causes your skin to become dry or lose elasticity and other skin problems. For some, you may get brown patches on your face or neck, darkening of existing spots on the face, and the annoying skin condition of melasma. Some pregnant mothers also develop sensitive skin, have existing skin allergies aggravated, or experience skin problems such as eczema and urticaria.

For busy moms, it is really not an easy task to juggle children, family and your career at the same time, and to also maintain beautiful and radiant skin at all times when you don’t have enough sleep. Therefore, it is very important to have a beauty routine and skin care regimen, otherwise once your skin condition worsens, it will be more difficult to treat it in the future.

Here are some steps for mummies who want to maintain healthy and glowing skin:

  1. Change towels regularly every week, as towels can accumulate sweat, dirt, and oil over time and this can lead to breakouts.
  2. Wash your face with a mild facial cleanser when you wake up in the morning and before going to bed at night, or choose a cleanser that exfoliates and moisturises your skin to remove dirt, sweat, makeup or oil buildup your face to avoid clogging pores, which can lead to breakouts. If you have acne-prone or sensitive skin, choose a cleanser that is gentle on the skin. If you are really busy, you can use micellar water as a basic skin care product, apply it on a cotton pad, and gently wipe and cleanse the face.
  3. Moisturisers are essential to help replenish moisture in the deep skin layers. Use a moisturiser morning and night, or apply before makeup, or use a tinted moisturiser in place of foundation. A tinted moisturiser with SPF provides hydration and antioxidants for anti-aging. You can also use a sleeping cream at night to help effectively restore moisture.
  4. Apply sunscreen on top of your moisturiser every morning to keep your skin hydrated. Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun's UV rays and reduces signs of aging like wrinkles and age spots. Wearing sunscreen is especially important if you often take your kids out, be it to school or other activities.
  5. Double cleanse with micellar water first before following up with a normal cleanser to remove any dirt, oil or sweat left on the skin, helping to ensure that your skin is thoroughly cleansed. Using a toner after your cleanser can help you clean and balance your skin to ensure it has the right oil-water levels to look its best.
  6. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day to keep your skin hydrated and eat more foods rich in natural antioxidants such as fruits, fish and green vegetables to maintain optimal health from the inside out.
  7. If you are really too busy and tired, have some cleansing wipes and an all-in-one moisturiser on your bedside table. You can use the wet wipes to quickly wipe away dirt, oil, sweat and makeup from your face, and the moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated. You can also keep these cleansing wipes and moisturisers in your bag so you can cleanse and moisturise on the go.

Busy moms still need to take some time for self-care and maintain radiant, beautiful skin. Cleanse and moisturise daily, and apply sunscreen, a multipurpose moisturiser or sleeping cream. In addition, eating foods rich in antioxidants and drinking plenty of water can help you maintain healthy skin. Whenever there's spare time, use a toner or double-cleanse to keep your skin hydrated.

No matter how busy your day is, as long as you stick to these steps, over time, your skin will thank you for it in the future!
